Sampahku Tanggung Jawabku: Membentuk Karakter Siswa yang Sadar Etika Publik dan Lingkungan

Abstract

Waste management issues in elementary schools require serious attention as they are closely related to character building and environmental awareness from an early age. This community service activity aimed to foster students’ awareness and responsibility toward waste management through the implementation of the “My Waste, My Responsibility” concept at SD Negeri Gunung Pandau. The method used was a simple and interactive socialization approach combined with direct practice. The activity stages included preparation of materials, implementation of socialization sessions, and simulation of organic and inorganic waste sorting through educational games. The results showed an improvement in students’ understanding of different types of waste and proper waste management practices. Students actively participated in the activities, were able to classify waste according to its type, and began to demonstrate behavioral changes, such as disposing of waste properly and reminding peers to maintain classroom cleanliness. The activity not only enhanced students’ knowledge but also strengthened their sense of responsibility and environmental awareness within the school environment. In conclusion, an interactive socialization method accompanied by hands-on practice is effective in shaping students’ character in terms of public ethics and environmental responsibility. This program can serve as an initial step toward building a clean, healthy, and sustainable school cultur.
